The use of a certain space for culture as one sublimated term involves consideration of ideas and possible scenarios for physical and program editing, as well as possible uses for the wider community. The cinema hall in the Railway building, besides other possibilities, can also function as a space for community ()tenants of the Railway building ), but also as a space for creating cultural and artistic content developed in cooperation with local artists and organizations active in the filed of culture and art.
These considerations, which were manifested in a series of meetings, workshops and talks, are part of the project “Cultural spaces for active citizens”, supported by the program CIVICA Mobilitas and organized by the partners “Lokomotiva – Center for new initiatives in art and culture” from Skopje and “Faculty for things that can not be learned” from Bitola / Skopje. During 2017 and 2018, in cooperation with the tenants and the house council of the building, they actively worked on the topic “Use of the Cinema of the Railway Building”.The idea of the public event, which will be held on June 23 in the cinema hall of the Railway Building, is to present the current work realized within the project “Cultural spaces for active citizens”, connected with the Railway Building in Skopje.
The event will unite:
1. Exhibition of design solutions – project proposals from young architects who applied at the student competition for submitting proposals with an idea for a new interior space concept of the existing cinema in the Railway building in the center of Skopje;
2. Awarding certificates to all participants in the competition. Awarding the Best 3 Solutions. The awards will be presented by the members of the jury: Dejan Ivanovski – architect, Slobodanka Stevcevska – fine arts artist and Maksim Naumovski – architect;
3. Video collage – presentation of photos and videos of activities realized within the project “Cultural spaces for active citizens”;
4. Discussion on the Plan of Use of the Railway Building with the presence of representatives of the Municipality of Centar and more collaborators.
The project “Cultural space for active citizens” was realized in partnership between Lokomotiva- Skopje, FRU and in collaboration with Theatre of Navigator Cvetko (Skopje) and associations Freedom Square and Cultural artistic Center “Textile”.
CIVICA Mobilitas is a project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), implemented by NIRAS from Denmark, the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC) from Macedonia and the Swedish Institute for Public Administration (SIPU) from Sweden.
Through the partner of the project FRU Bitola / Skopje, this activity is part of the Civil Society Week supported by the USAID Citizen Participation Project – a series of events that promote the work of NGOs in front of the wider public, organized in the period from 18-23 June 2018 through the Republic of Macedonia.
The realization of the public event is supported by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Skopje.
